Alison and Travis met at Southern Methodist University while competing in 3 Minute Thesis (3MT). 3MT is a competition where students orally present their master's thesis or doctoral dissertation. Travis signed up to get his graduate advisor off his back about finishing his thesis. Alison signed up to have a captive audience listen to her speak for 3 minutes.

They met right before Alison interviewed for her clinical internship year. Clinical internship is similar to medical residency - students apply to a variety of programs and "match" to just one program. Not knowing she was about to meet her future husband, Alison applied to programs all over the country. Of the 8 programs she interviewed at, only one was in Texas. But she matched at the single program in Texas!

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Alison and Travis didn’t let that slow them down! In fact, stay at home orders let them spend A LOT of quality time together! And even though Alison swore to Travis she would never be a runner, they both became regular joggers while the gyms were closed! Only true love could make Alison a runner!

Life seemed to take Alison and Travis away from each other at times. Alison moved to Houston in July 2020 for her clinical internship while Travis stayed in Dallas. Even though he looked for a position in Houston, Travis ended up taking a job in Austin in June 2021. Alison took a postdoctoral residency in Waco in September 2021. Although they were closer together, living in different cities was difficult, so in February 2023 Alison moved to Austin!

Travis isn't the best at keeping secrets and Alison always swore she would know before he proposed. But Travis caught her by surprise on a Christmas vacation to Charleston, SC! On December 29th, 2023, Travis asked Alison if she wanted to continue their adventures for the rest of her life. And she, of course, said yes!
